As a kid I grew up listening to Christmas songs all year round, I don’t quite know what it was, but there was just something about them that I could never get enough of. I’m not sure if it was the fact that it would make me happy or because I was just always excited for Christmas. One of my all-time favourite songs will always be “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town“, I think almost everyone in North America has heard the song before and I know in many other parts of the world they have as well. All the song really talks about is how Santa is on his way and we should prepare ourselves and be ready. The song was originally written by two friends by the names of John Fredrick Coots and Haben Gillespie. The song was first sung in November 1934 on Eddie Cantor’s radio show. It became an instant hit and sold hundreds of thousands of copies just after few days.
What makes this song so great is that many contemporary artists have actually recorded their and preformed their own versions of the song. Famous rock and roll superstar Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band also preformed their version live on stage on numerous occasions while on tour in the weeks leading to Christmas. They would dress up as Santa Clause himself and bring joy to the faces of thousands of adults singing along with them. Many other artists like Justin Beiber and Mariah Carey have also made their own unique versions of the song. The song has been such an inspiration to the lives of so many people that there was even a 50 minute movie produced just based on the song. The movie shows visuals of what the song stands for. It shows how excited and well behaved kids get before Christmas to prepare for Santa Clauses appearance and arrival.
